We all know that agriculture is changing. As with most industries, technology develops to help improve processes, make decisions more efficient and ultimately provide a positive impact on productivity. Right now, a lot is "changing" in agriculture. Even as growers begin to adopt new production processes on the farm, we are also seeing vast "new" ways to farm. The question with respect to what impact will technology have for farmers is only one part of the puzzle, the second is what impact will technology have on the way "we" farm. There is no doubt that many technological developments focused on agriculture will be complimentary for the average grower willing to invest in making their operations more efficient but there is also a strong disruptive force brewing with respect to the way, we as the world, produce food.
The Economists Technology Quarterly has a number of articles worth reading for those interested in the future of Ag: http://www.economist.com/technology-quarterly/2016-06-09/factory-fresh
As a technology focused service provider for farmers, we are dreamers with respect to our vision of how drones will impact growers. The step that many companies are missing in their application of drones and remote sensing to farming, is actually working with growers to identify ways that remote sensing can impact their operations - both in the short-run and the long-run. If you are a progressive grower and would like to do a pilot project to see how drones can positively impact your operations, we would love to work with you.
