Interesting to see this article this morning in the Globe and Mail: http://goo.gl/Y8qOHp
Transport Canada is definitely starting to take a look at applications of drone technology and where big thinkers might begin to apply new business models. Delivery is an interesting question because there are so many complicated factors at play , especially with respect to safety and privacy when using drones in densely populated areas.
As a technology company that uses drones to collect data, we are proponents of the technology and the positive efficiency that likely lies ahead. As a drone operator today though, we are happy to be focused on rural areas where our ability to operate already falls under Transport Canada's SFOC program.
From a regulatory level, we are most excited about the future of "beyond line of sight." When you look at the applications of current military technology and how that might be applied to commercial data gathering, we start to get excited. In the meantime, continual public education on the value that drones can bring is going to make everyone feel more comfortable about the ideas of small robots buzzing around their heads.
