Drones, Dallas, and Deveron UAS

On May 8th through the 12th the drone and unmanned robotics world descended upon the Kay Baily Hutchison convention center in Dallas, Texas to participate in the 2017 edition of AUVSI Xponential.

Xponential is the flagship conference by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), and is the single largest trade show for unmanned systems and robotics in the world. With over 650 leading exhibitors, covering air, land, and sea applications for over 20 industries, Dallas was the place to be for anyone interested in unmanned systems.

Naturally, Deveron UAS made the trip down to the lone star state, and did not shy away from the spotlight. Our Head of UAS Agriculture, Norm Lamothe, partook in the exciting panel discussion Remote Sensing Applications in Agriculture: How Drone Data Provides Value to Growers and Researchers. With panel expertise from agronomists, drone service providers, analytics providers, and academia, the focus was separating hype from reality, while exploring how real value can be derived from remote sensing across many agricultural ventures. An important topic indeed, as adoption of any technology fundamentally rests on its ability to deliver actual results.

With many great experiences and connections made in Dallas, Deveron’s focus now returns to the season ahead; further expanding our operations and further cementing Deveron as the leader in quality, actionable data for growers in Canada and abroad.

Precision Agriculture Professionals and Drones in 2017

The potential for drones and their services in agriculture presents a truly exciting opportunity for both companies like Deveron and farmers alike. Whether it be their speed, accuracy, or efficiency, many experts (and us!) peg them as the next big thing in the industry. However as with any innovative technology, drones face their own set of hurdles to overcome before widespread adoption; hurdles which we at Deveron are actively pursuing and finding creative solutions for.

Below you can find a great report done by Jeremiah Karpowicz of the Commercial UAV News summarizing the exciting progress of drones in the agricultural space, along with some of the obstacles still faced by the industry. Our own Norm Lamothe speaks to how Deveron is addressing these obstacles and working with customers to find and deliver value.
